We offer a variety of fixed and portable gas detectors specifically designed to identify Chlorine (CL2)

For numerous industries, it's crucial to quickly and precisely detect hazardous Chlorine gases to prevent them from reaching harmful or toxic concentrations.

Explore our selection of Chlorine detection devices and related instruments, engineered to monitor an extensive array of volatile organic compounds. Our product lineup includes:

Chlorine (Cl2) is a poisonous gas with a distinct greenish-yellow hue and a strong, recognizable odor. It reacts directly with almost all elements and acts as a respiratory irritant. Exposure to chlorine gas can irritate the mucous membranes, and contact with its liquid form can cause burns on the skin.

Chlorine can be detected at concentrations as low as 0.2 parts per million (ppm), and its smell becomes noticeable around 3 ppm. At 30 ppm, it may cause coughing and vomiting, while concentrations of 60 ppm can lead to lung damage. Inhalation of 1000 ppm is likely to be fatal after just a few deep breaths. Lower levels of exposure can still cause irritation to the nose, throat, lungs, and eyes.

While chlorine gas does not occur naturally, accidental releases can happen when incompatible chemicals are mixed. For example, in May 2015, chlorine gas was released during a cleaning operation when hydrochloric acid was mistakenly added to a sump containing sodium hypochlorite. The employees involved had not been properly trained, highlighting the importance of training, risk assessments, and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) when handling chemicals. Even seemingly harmless chemicals can be dangerous in combination.

One of the most common chlorine compounds is sodium chloride, or table salt. Chlorine is widely used in bleaches, disinfectants (such as those for swimming pools), and in treating drinking water.

Chlorine also plays a crucial role in manufacturing a vast range of consumer products, including around two-thirds of organic chemicals. It is involved in the production of materials like PVC, polycarbonates, polyurethanes, silicones, and PTFE, with around 15,000 chlorine compounds used in commercial applications today.
