We offer a variety of fixed and portable gas detectors specifically designed to identify Ethylene Oxide (ETO)

For numerous industries, it's crucial to quickly and precisely detect hazardous Ethylene Oxide gases to prevent them from reaching harmful or toxic concentrations.

Explore our selection of Ethylene Oxide detection devices and related instruments, engineered to monitor an extensive array of Ethylene Oxide. Our product lineup includes:

Characteristics of Ethylene Oxide (C2H4O)

Ethylene oxide (C2H4O) is a flammable, colourless gas that becomes gaseous at temperatures above 10.7°C. At toxic levels, it emits an ether-like odour. We offer a wide range of ethylene oxide gas detectors, equipped with advanced, long-lasting sensor technology and our cutting-edge Sentinel+ addressable communication system. Learn more about ethylene oxide (ETO) and explore our detector options below. Contact our team today for more information.

Uses of Ethylene Oxide (C2H4O)

Ethylene oxide (C2H4O) is used in the manufacturing of a variety of products, including:

- Solvents
- Antifreeze
- Textiles
- Detergents
- Adhesives
- Polyurethane foam
- Pharmaceuticals

Smaller quantities are used in fumigants, as a sterilizing agent for spices and cosmetics, and in hospitals to sterilize surgical equipment.

Ethylene oxide is produced in large volumes, primarily serving as a key intermediate in the production of several industrial chemicals, with ethylene glycol being the most significant.

Medical Applications:

Ethylene oxide is used as a fumigant for certain agricultural products. Due to its ability to act as a residue-free poison gas, pure ethylene oxide is also utilized as a sterilizing agent for medical equipment and supplies that cannot undergo high-temperature steam sterilization. This includes devices with electronic components, plastic packaging, or plastic containers. Ethylene oxide penetrates both packaging and products to eliminate microorganisms left behind during manufacturing or packaging processes.

Health Risks:

Ethylene oxide presents significant physical and health risks. It is highly flammable and reactive. Acute exposure to ethylene oxide gas can cause respiratory irritation, lung damage, headaches, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, shortness of breath, and cyanosis. Prolonged exposure has been linked to cancer, reproductive issues, genetic mutations, neurotoxicity, and sensitization. These hazards make it critical to handle ethylene oxide with care.
